Your first trade, in 54 seconds
Multi-collection trading was new, so new users needed to see it before they’d try it. This onboarding video walks through a real trade from start to finish: find a partner, pick items from both sides, chat, and send an offer.
The problem
Trading NFTs person to person was confusing and risky. Evaluate let people trade across multiple collections on the Flow blockchain, something new that people had to understand before they’d trust it.
That meant three jobs: explain the idea (website), make trading feel safe and simple (product), and teach new users the multi-step trade (onboarding).
My role
UX/UI and motion designer on the Evaluate team at Variable Medium, working across the website, the trading product (desktop and mobile), and the onboarding video.
The product: trade + chat
- Trade table: a system for selecting and swapping NFTs from both sides of a deal.
- Chat built into the trade: negotiation happens where the trade happens, not in a separate app.
- Offers that expire: traders don’t have to be online at the same time. Offers wait, with an expiry date, so trading works asynchronously.
- Mobile: the app was redesigned for small screens, keeping every key feature and the visual style while resizing for legibility.
- Tested with users: advanced mobile prototypes let us test layout and flows with users before development.
The website
Built around the one thing competitors couldn’t do: multi-collection trading. A short looping video showed it instead of describing it, with 3D elements and social proof from early users.
Onboarding
Trading was multi-step and complex, so I made a short video that stripped the UI down to only the critical elements, enlarged what mattered, and walked users through a real trade.
Outcome
The app launched, with the website, trading product, and onboarding video shipped together.
